Detective Zebra & The Mystery of the Missing Parts is one of our all-time favorite books. We’ve read it many, many times, and somehow it never gets boring. My boy absolutely loves this story—and honestly, so do I.

Detective Zebra and his co-worker are waiting for a new case at the police station when suddenly, a strange noise comes from the neighbor’s house. A worried neighbor asks Detective Zebra for help… and just like that, the adventure begins.

One of the sweetest surprises in this book is the lovely little details hidden throughout the story. There’s even a tart recipe inside the book—and yes, we tried it. It was delicious 😊

Here’s the mystery:
A tart is baked in the neighbor’s house, but by morning, all the tarts have mysteriously disappeared. Detective Zebra and his assistant carefully investigate the kitchen, collect clues, and talk to the neighbors. Following the evidence leads them to a house where a family of mice lives.

The truth comes out: the mice were hungry, and they took the tarts.
But they don’t just explain what happened—they apologize for taking something that wasn’t theirs.

Instead of blaming or punishing them, Detective Zebra looks for a solution. Together, they make an agreement. Seeds are planted so the mice can prepare food for the winter, and a small locked door is added—so the mice can politely knock before entering the house.

His story gently teaches so many meaningful lessons:
empathyhelping each otherrespecting boundariestaking responsibilitysaying sorry when we make a mistake, and of course, the thrill of a good mystery. It’s a book that invites kids (and parents) to connect, reflect, and enjoy the adventure—again and again.
